After years of battling moderate acne, fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone I decided I needed to make a serious change in my skincare routine. I went to my friend-favorite dermatology office, Integrated Dermatology K Street and my PA got me started on some amazing new products that I am now obsessed with. Aside from light prescription meds and a few procedures like Botox and Microneedling with PRP, these products have seriously changed my skin. This list is a combination of dermatologist recommended products and a few I’ve found on my own that I love. I’ll be posting more on my skincare procedures in the coming months. I hope you enjoy this first post of my “skincare chronicles.”

One of the most important factors to having good skin is removing dirt and MAKEUP from your face. I for one never sleep in my makeup or forget to take it off. These Neutrogena makeup remover wipes have been my favorites for a long time and make it super easy to, at a minimum, get your day’s worth of makeup off your face before bed. Pro tip: Order them in bulk off Amazon and save yourself a ton of money.
When I had my first appointment at the derm she suggested this cleanser and I’ll be buying it the rest of my life. Apparently the tough exfoliates I was using are actually super bad for my skin, leaving tiny superficial tears that leave it feeling more rough than soft. I know it FEELS like you’re doing good with those hard scrubs but honestly you need to toss them ASAP and snag this light exfoliating cleanser. After a couple weeks I noticed a major different in the softness of my skin. I use it twice a day.
I have pretty uneven skin-tone and a little bit of hyper-pigmentation. My Derm PA suggested this product to help with brightening my skin and giving it a more even tone overall. I definitely notice a difference the morning after I apply to my face. This product comes with a heft price tag so check out some of the alternatives I’ve suggested at the end of this post.
Another great pigment-improving product, I tried these after impulsively buying them in line at Sephora. I LOVED the results as my skin looked super fresh and rejuvenated after just one use! This product comes with a smaller price tag than my SkinMedica serum and you can buy between 5-60 treatments.
I’ve had a couple dermatologists recommend CeraVe and I now know why. The PM is a mild moisturizer that goes on light and works so well. I use the PM for both day and nighttime but when I know I’ll be in the sun a lot I use the AM (which is thicker/heavier) for the SPF protection. This product is an absolute must have for your skincare routine.
I randomly came across this “drying lotion” a few months ago and I wish I had found it YEARS ago. Tiny blemish ruining your day? Dab a little bit of this Mario Badescu solution on it and it will decrease the size/redness significantly. Any time I have even a suggestion of a pimple I use this product and always see a drastic difference within 24 hours. I typically use it at night after I’ve applied all my other lotions and potions in my skincare routine but I’ve also dabbed it on a blemish in the morning before I apply my makeup as an added barrier.
A friend of mine suggested this rosewater spray and since then I have been obsessed. They say to keep your face moisturized at night so I spritz a few sprays of this on before bed. I also find that when I’m flying the air on planes tends to really dry out my skin; so I love bringing this travel-friendly spray along to keep my face hydrated. Even when I’m not feeling dry it’s just so refreshing. Mario Badescu has a whole line of amazing products in addition to the two I’ve noted.
Eye masks are all the rage these days and I finally got around to giving them a try. I really like the Sephora collection of face masks so I gave these a try. I always pick masks with brightening/moisturizing components. There are dozens of eye masks out there but I appreciate the $5 price tag for these.
Why is a Skincare Routine is Important?
Using a random serum here and there and sometimes washing your makeup off isn’t going to give you results. Whether you are battling acne or just want to improve the overall look and feel of your facial skin, you need to stick to a skincare routine. Using products that you like and work with your skin will make all the difference. These products I’ve listed are from the suggestions of dermatologists and friends. Finding what works best for you and repeatedly using the same products will bring results!
On a budget?
Here are some products that are similar to the ones I’ve noted above at lower price-points. I am a big believer in investing in your skin and that you get what you pay for with most products. Although some of these products may seem expensive, most of them last quite a while and will give you the results the cheaper products may not.
